The Creation of a Memorial

PHASE I
At the center of the Bemidji Veterans Memorial is a life-size statue of Marine Cpl. Charles “Chuck” Lindberg, one of the first flag raisers at Iwo Jima, 
Sculpted by local artist Jim Paulsen.
Flags
PHASE II
Lighted flags stand as the backdrop, featuring an American flag, POW-MIA, State of Minnesota, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines.
Sandstone Pillars
PHASE III
Representing each branch of military service - Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines, six sandstone pillars, each laser-etched with the figure of a military man or woman, also depict various ethnicities and races.
Service Dog
PHASE IV
A bronze statue of a K-9 war dog was created and placed directly behind the Marine Cpl. Lindberg statue.
